COVID Return to Play Guidelines
Revised Interim guidance for Pediatric Return to Play/Sports following COVID-19 infection
Return to play guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) was updated on February 2, including the health assessment tool. The revised guidance states that children in the mild risk category can resume physical activity upon release from isolation once their primary care provider has completed a cardiac evaluation. Children 12 and older who participate in competitive sports or intense physical activities are still required to gradually return to physical activity.
Guidance in this area from both the AAP and the American College of Cardiology is informed by expert opinion. As specialists in pediatric cardiology see more children around the country after COVID-19, recommendations for return to sports and play likely will be revised. The school district will continue to work with primary care providers in our community to ensure our students safely return to activities.
