• What will my child learn in Prekindergarten?

The overall goal of prekindergarten instruction is to build a foundation for children to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Plans for your child’s learning are guided by the New York State (NYS) Prekindergarten Learning Standards. From these standards, the District develops a comprehensive curriculum to achieve the learning standards. Then, the teacher uses his/her knowledge of your child and instructional techniques and develops and implements lessons to meet the needs of his/her students. Finally, the teacher uses various assessments and observations to monitor your child’s progress and inform the development of future lessons to support your child and all the learners. A Parent's Guide to the NYS Next Generation ELA and Math Learning Standards is a good resource to learn more about the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards.
