• What will happen when my child is ready for kindergarten?

    Transitioning to Kindergarten
The GCSD is committed to a smooth transition into kindergarten. We believe that creating and implementing a seamless kindergarten transition can make a significant difference for children’s on-going school success. Children benefit most when all parties involved in the process work together to support the transition. Whether your child has been in a district UPK program, at home, or another early childhood setting we are looking to create a partnership that ensures success. Here are some first steps you can take to ensure a smooth transition.

    • If your child attended our GCSD UPK program, you will need to contact your child’s home school for kindergarten to share your intent for your child to attend kindergarten. This ensures that the District can plan for your child’s attendance and that you will be included in any information and opportunities for incoming kindergarteners.

    • If your child has been in an early learning setting outside of the district, you will receive information about our Ready, Set, Kindergarten sessions so we can learn more about your child prior to the beginning of Kindergarten.

    • Plan to take part in school-based kindergarten orientation activities to introduce your child to his/her new school.
